Every Day, People
Denise Prince’s photographs challenge our perception of beauty by confronting us with reality. Her work strives to redefine societal hierarchies by combining fashion with everyday locations and individuality. As a Texas-based photographer, Prince uses environments that embody the day-to-day culture of the state—local markets, eateries, and county fairs—for her backdrops. She juxtaposes these commonplace settings with people, often people of color or people from communities that have been marginalized. Prince describes her goal as being “to envision freedom beyond limits defined by traditions of Western culture and society.”
